Jazz

Our sweet Norleans Jazz lives in Ellensburg Washington with my husband, daughter and me. She is happy, loyal, affectionate and sometimes very silly. Going on hikes, wading through streams, and finding fun things to sniff are activities Jazz loves.

We got Jazz from Sullivan’s Boston Terriers, one of our favorite breeders. She was originally going to live with my mom in Kamiah, but when I picked her up from the flight nanny, I was instantly taken with her and decided to keep her in Ellensburg. She quickly settled in and became an irreplaceable part of our family.

Jazz is seven years old, strong and sturdy, and usually weighs around 23 pounds. She has a kind and curious personality and is the perfect family dog. My daughter, Mara, loves playing dress-up, and Jazz patiently joins in, watching her with love and calm. If Mara wakes up from a bad dream, Jazz will cuddle up beside her until she falls back asleep. She’s incredibly empathetic—if any of us are feeling down, she sticks close, offering quiet comfort. Confident and alert, she often takes the lead among the dogs.

One of Jazz's silliest quirks is how she loves to sit on other dogs as if they’re her personal couch.

We share so many fun moments. In the garden, Jazz loves chasing grasshoppers and sniffing around where the rabbits have been. Once, she bit into a stinkbug by mistake and learned to give them a wide berth after that! She’s always up for a hike, especially on off-leash trails, and loves splashing around in ponds and creeks, though she’ll only swim if there’s a stick or ball to chase. One of her favorite things is visiting the rest of the pack in Idaho, where she runs free through the fields and forests, chasing scents and playing with the other dogs.

Jazz had four litters, and from the start, she amazed us. With her first litter, she looked like she had swallowed a watermelon—and sure enough, that “watermelon” turned out to be nine healthy puppies! It was quite the surprise, as Boston Terriers usually have just four to five pups. She delivered them all naturally, and every one of them thrived.

Her second litter brought seven pups, including a little fighter we named Tiny Tim, born with a cleft palate. We syringe-fed him for eight weeks, and he stole all our hearts.

Jazz’s third litter was expected to be six, but once again she had plans of her own and gave us nine. Then, on September 16, 2023, she set a personal record—ten puppies in a single litter!

Through it all, Jazz has been an incredible mom. Her pups have always been healthy, chunky, and full of life. These days, she enjoys her well-earned role as grandma.
